stumbles upon a mysterious Celtic tapestry. Many strange people are interested
in Max and his tapestry. His discovery leads him to Rowan Academy, a secret
school where great things await him.
But
dark things are waiting, too. When Max learns that priceless artworks and
gifted children are disappearing, he finds himself in the crossfire of an
ancient struggle between good and evil. To survive, he'll have to rely on a
network of agents and mystics, the genius of his roommate, and the frightening
power awakening within him.

#2 Jungle of Bones
by Ben Mikaelsen (January 28th 2014, Scholastic)
Lost and alone in the jungle, one boy will have to let go of his assumptions and anger, or be dragged down with them.
Dylan
Barstow has finally crossed the line. After getting caught on a late-night
joyride in a stolen car, Dylan is shipped off to live with his ex-Marine uncle
for the summer. But Uncle Todd has bigger plans for Dylan than push-ups and
early-morning jogs.
Deep in
the steamy jungles of Papua New Guinea, there's a WWII fighter plane named
SECOND ACE that's been lost for years, a plane that Dylan's own grandfather
barely escaped from with his life. In all this time, no one has ever been able
to track down SECOND ACE -- but now Dylan and his uncle are going to try.
Lush and
haunted, vital and deadly, these alien jungles half a world away could mean
Dylan's salvation, or they could swallow him whole.

changes forever when he meets an emissary from a secret country called the
Imagine Nation, an astonishing place where all the fantastic and unbelievable
things in the world originate. Including Jack.

#4 The Ghosts of Tupelo
Landing
By
Sheila Turnage (February 4th 2014, Kathy Dawson Books)
When
Miss Lana makes an Accidental Bid at the Tupelo auction and winds up the
mortified owner of an old inn, she doesn't realize there's a ghost in the fine
print. Naturally, Desperado Detective Agency (aka Mo and Dale) opens a
paranormal division to solve the mystery of the ghost's identity. They've got
to figure out who the ghost is so they can interview it for their history
assignment (extra credit). But Mo and Dale start to realize that the Inn isn't
the only haunted place in Tupelo Landing. People can also be haunted by their
own past. As Mo and Dale handily track down the truth about the ghost (with
some help from the new kid in town), they discover the truth about a great many
other people, too.

#5 Shipwreck Island
by
S. A. Bodeen (July 29th 2014, Feiwel & Friends)
Sarah
Robinson is deeply troubled in the wake of her dad’s second marriage. She now
has to deal with a new stepmom and two stepbrothers, Marco, who is her age, and
Nacho, who’s younger. Even though they’ve all moved from Texas to California to
start life as a new, blended family, none of the kids seem remotely happy about
it.
Sarah’s dad and stepmom then decide to take the whole family on a special vacation in order to break the ice and have everyone get to know one another. They’ll fly to Tahiti, charter a boat, and go sailing for a few days. It’ll be an adventure, right?
Wrong. Dead wrong.
